As cliche as it sounds, from the moment I stepped foot into Beanie Media’s office, I knew it was the job for me. I was met with a dynamic environment and warm smiles for my interview, and found myself with my fingers crossed on the journey home.
It was refreshing to leave with such a strong feeling of certainty, given that the past pandemic-ridden year had been one filled with complete juxtaposed emotion. My last month spent studying my Journalism degree at the University of Lincoln resulted in somewhat of an anti-climax, given that lockdown was officially announced just a few days prior to my dissertation hand-in.
Many within my generation suffered with unemployment and an endless stream of job rejections, so when I received the news that I had got the job as a social media executive, I felt genuinely grateful as well as ecstatic.
Social media was far from unfamiliar to me. At home, I often found myself glued to my phone screen, endlessly fascinated by aesthetically pleasing instagram layouts, marketing ploys disguised as tweets, and other features that I could play around with.
Even with my previous knowledge though, little did I know about the endless possibilities behind social media marketing. If there’s a company trusting you with their name on the web, then it’s vital that you pay attention to the fine details to make sure that you do them justice. A colour is never just a colour, and typography can set a whole different tone. In my opinion, the art of social media marketing lies in perfectionism.
Now, I continue to learn and grow every day, and I feel as if I have only just started on a skill-flourishing journey. I’m consistently able to expand on creative skills within Adobe software, whilst coming up with fresh, creative written content to keep audiences engaged.
I’ve even been given the opportunity to experiment with graphics and illustration; something I’ve discovered a new found passion for. Thanks to the help of my exceptionally friendly and accommodating team members, Melissa and Mohammed, I feel as if though I’m able to consistently improve on my performance through advice and experience.
I’ve been here for two months now, and I can honestly say that there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t enjoy. I love the rewarding result that comes from a company’s satisfaction with content, as well as the challenge of continuously growing audiences to benefit businesses in the long run. The world on the web moves fast, so it’s fair to say that no day is the same.
I look forward to continuing with my career at Beanie Media now. There’s not many people that can say they’ve been able to turn their favourite hobby into a profession, but thanks to this wonderful company that I’m now proud to represent, that’s exactly what I’m able to do.
