Why your website doesn’t convert to customers

WHY YOU HAVEN’T RECEIVED A RETURN ON INVESTMENT ON YOUR WEBSITE YET.

Having a website is an essential investment for any business, but if your website doesn’t convert to paying customers, what’s the point?

There is none.

So if you’ve found yourself in this situation, it’s time to get out.

Welcome to Beanie Media. We’re a web development agency in Huddersfield, and in this blog, you will learn why your website hasn’t paid for itself yet and how you can change that.

1.0 YOU NEED TO RECOGNISE HOW YOUR WEBSITE WILL RESULT IN PAYING CUSTOMERS.

Firstly, it’s important to recognise how your website will result in paying customers because this is going to be different depending on your product, service and sector.

Before the development of your website even starts, you need to decide if your website is to build trust or to push enquiries from people searching for your product or service.

1.1 IF YOUR WEBSITE IS TO BUILD TRUST

Let’s say you are a  business advisor, it’s unlikely that someone will Google your service and then just reach out to you. It is more likely that a business would approach someone they have heard of and trust.

But

Let’s assume you are a business advisor who goes out to networking events and is constantly developing new relationships. You will come across people who are in the market for your product or service and the likelihood is that if someone has met you once or twice and has a genuine interest in what you do, they are going to look for your website to find out more about you.

This is where building trust comes in.

As long as the interested individual finds the extra pieces of information that they were looking for, along with a visually pleasing experience you will have satisfied their reasons for visiting your website, meaning they are likely to make the jump and contact you to discuss your service.

On the other hand, If the person who had an interest in your service had landed on your outdated website, where it’s hard to pick out important bits of information (or the correct information isn’t there full stop), then this person is going to be put off from using your service.

So, if your website is to build trust, it should contain: A design and style that’s friendly to online readers, a clear description of who you are, easy to find contact information, customer testimonials, an obvious call to action and a secure hosting platform.

1.2 IF YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE IS HIGHLY SEARCHED FOR.

For this example, let’s say your business is something more general, like a skip hire service. This is something everyday people Google search for and make enquiries based on who they find first because they want to take immediate action with this service.

If you have a service people take fast action on, you should be getting enquiries directly through your website. If you have a website and it’s not generating leads, it’s most likely one of two things:

It’s hard to navigate around – hard to find contact details, where you are based, etc.

The design is outdated – instantly displeases consumers.

OR

No one can find your website because it’s not SEO optimised.

People seem to have a misconception that just because their website is live on Google, that people are going to be able to find it from searching. If your website hasn’t been SEO optimised then people won’t see it unless they type your domain directly into Google.

If you provide a local searchable service, you need to: Make your meta titles your service with a location (e.g skip and waste hire in Huddersfield) and make sure your meta description contains your keywords (e.g We provide skip and waste hire in Huddersfield and the West Yorkshire area. We’ve built a trusted reputation over the last 10 years for skip hire in Huddersfield.) Add relevant blogs and keep your site updated regularly.

This will give your website basic SEO fundamentals. If you’d like to know more about how you can optimise your website then click here to contact us.

Hopefully, this basic guide has given you an insight as to why your website isn’t working the way that you had hoped. If you do have any questions or would like to go through your website in more detail, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
